AMA Camps are Dec 18-22 and 27-29
The brief cold snap this first week of November is a timely reminder that the holiday season is upon us. That means it’s also time to make plans on how your kids will spend their winter school break while you make those last-minute shopping trips and errands as Christmas is rushing in.
The Albany Museum of Art can help parents who are looking for ways to keep their children busy while sparking their creativity during the two-week school break in December. The AMA is offering a pair of popular holiday art camps for students in K-7th grade that will fill their days with art, activities, and fun while also encouraging them to use their imagination.
“The camps bring color and life to the holiday season, and they are perfect for keeping your child safe and engaged,” AMA Director of Education and Public Programming Annie Vanoteghem said. “The Libby Womack Holiday Workshop is a longtime tradition for the week before Christmas, and our Winter Wonders Art Camp is a more recent addition to our annual camp schedule that bridges the time between Christmas and New Year’s Day.”
This year, the Libby Womack Holiday Workshop is Dec 18-22, and the Winter Wonders Art Camp is Dec 27-29. Both camps open at 9 am each day and continue until 4 pm, with free early drop-off at 8 am and free late pick-up at 5 pm. Half-day options for each camp are 9 am-noon, or 1-4 pm. Campers may bring a brown-bag lunch or the AMA can provide lunch for an additional fee. All campers enjoy a free pizza lunch on the last day of camp.
The cost for the five-day Libby Womack Holiday Workshop for campers attending all day is $200 for AMA donors or $230 for non-donors. The half-day option for the week is $170 for AMA donors and $200 for non-donors. The three-day Winter Wonders Art Camp for full-day campers is $100 for AMA donors or $130 for non-donors. The half-day option is $70 for AMA donors or $100 for non-donors.
“The Libby Womack Workshop, which is named for the beloved educator who served on the museum’s Board of Trustees, has always been one of our most in-demand art camps, and Winter Wonders has been steadily building since we introduced it a few years ago,” Vanoteghem said. “Parents began signing up their children immediately after we opened registration earlier this week. Parents who are interested will want to register their campers soon, while space is still available.”
