Thirteen Students Win Awards at First Student Art Exhibition at the AMA
Thirteen high school students have been recognized for their work in the inaugural Juried Southwest Georgia Student Art Exhibition at the Albany Museum of Art. The juried exhibition opened Nov 16 in the West Gallery and continues through Jan 25, 2025.
“This exhibition celebrates young artists and provides a unique platform to display their talent in a professional setting,” AMA Director of Education and Public Programming Anni Vanoteghem said. “It nurtures student creativity and emphasizes the value of youthful perspectives through art. By showcasing their thoughtful and powerful work, the AMA underscores its commitment to inspiring and empowering the next generation of creators.”
A panel of jurors selected the top two winners and an honorable mention in four categories. Those who attended The Heart of Albany Festival, presented by Publix, voted for the People’s Choice winner from the more than 110 entries.
Winners in each category were:
3D ART
- 1st Place: Jack Hopkins, homeschool, The Freddy Fazbear Show;
- 2nd Place: Marley Davis, dually enrolled Dougherty High School and Albany Technical College, Everything but the Wine;
- Honorable Mention: Kayden Petterson, Monroe High School, Literacy Harvest.
ABSTRACT AND NON-TECHNICAL ART
- 1st Place: Sachi Goyal, Deerfield-Windsor School, Divine Krishna;
- 2nd Place: Qe’Asia Arnold, Westover High School, Drips from my Soul;
- Honorable Mention: Cora James, Byne Christian Academy, Dunce.
PHOTOGRAPHY AND DIGITAL ART
- 1st Place: Vanessa Cid, Doughety High School, Diversion Days;
- 2nd Place: Ja’Leah Parker Monroe High School, Echoes of Identity;
- Honorable Mention: Eythan Sanders, dually enrolled Dougherty High School and Albany Technical College, Spiderman Saves the Day.
TECHNICAL ART
- 1st Place: Zamira Austin, dually enrolled Dougherty High School and Albany Technical College, Chaos;
- 2nd Place: Emily Ramirez, Monroe High School, Booted Kitty;
- Honorable Mention: Rashaun Hooks, Monroe High School, The Valley.
PEOPLE’S CHOICE
- Daroiyun Strawder, Monroe High School, Flourishing Spirit.
“We were impressed by the quality and quantity of submissions,” Vanoteghem said. “This exhibition will be an annual showcase as part of The Heart of Albany Festival.”
