The Heart of Albany Festival, presented by Publix

The Heart of Albany Festival presented by Publix returns for its seventh year on Saturday, Nov 16. The event is 10 am-5 pm at the Albany Museum of Art, 311 Meadowlark Drive. Admission is free.

FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS THIS YEAR
- Nine professional chalk artists will compete for Best of Show. They will create chalk paintings 49 square feet or larger on the pavement. Pro artists confirmed for Saturday’s event are 2023 Best of Show winner Luqman Coffen, Sherri Harris, Lata Fields, Shannon Brooke, Daniel Foy, Anna Wilschetz, Brittany Williams, Heather Cap, and Fawn DeRosia.
- Two-time festival professional chalk art champion Jessi Queen will create a 3D chalk artwork on pavement that will be ideal for festival-goers to use for photos. (Festival social media hashtags are #heartfest and #albanymuseumofart.)
- Student and community chalk artist teams will compete in the amateur category. Phoebe sponsors the school chalk blocks and WebstaurantStore sponsors the community art blocks.
- Artists in various disciplines will demonstrate their creative process throughout the day. Participating artists include Scott Marini (cyanotype), Chris Johnson (wood-burned hats, info about murals, collaborative painting), Ke’Chanbria Ball (painting), Daniel Vanoteghem (mini figure painting), Remington Adams (jewelry), Tajah Taylor (waist beads), Joseph and Julie Bryant (portrait painting), Cora James (painting), Michelle Morrison (quick stenciled designing and printing to create wall decor), and Kathryn Phillips (heirloom photography).
- The first juried Southwest Georgia Student Art Exhibition, which attracted more than 110 entries from middle and high school students, will be in the West Gallery. Jurors will select winners in four categories. High school winners will be awarded cash prizes. In addition, festival-goers can help choose the People’s Choice winner, who also will receive a cash prize, from all the entries.
- All museum exhibition galleries will be open during the festival.
- Entertainment will be presented on the James M. Barnett, Jr. Foundation Stage, including Ballet Theatre South performing samples from its upcoming presentation of Snow White.
- Free kids’ games and activities will be in the Vine Vision AMAzing Activities Area.
Meals and snacks will be available throughout the day from several food trucks.
For adults 21 and older, a cash beer and cocktails bar will be available. - The Vendor Village will feature about three dozen businesses and organizations.
Winners in the professional and amateur chalk art divisions and the Southwest Georgia Student Art Exhibition will be announced from the stage at approximately 4 pm. - The AMA thanks our generous sponsors whose support enables the museum to present this free community event: Publix, the James M. ABOUT THE ALBANY MUSEUM OF ART
The Albany Museum of Art is located at 311 Meadowlark Drive in Albany, Ga., adjacent to Albany State University West Campus just off Gillionville Road.
