Acting Classes Will Be Conducted Over Six Weeks
The theater arts return to the Albany Museum of Art on Jan 31 when students in grades 2-5 begin Kids Take the Stage, a six-week acting class that will culminate with a Saturday morning performance on March 9.
“This is a new version of the classes we began in 2023, which was our first venture into the performance arts,” AMA Director of Education and Public Programming Annie Vanoteghem said. “This year, we are building on that. The student actors will meet twice a week on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, leading to the scripted performance in March.”
The class will be led by Vicki Knuckles, a longtime educator and children’s theater director. Knuckles led the inaugural 2023 winter classes and an AMA summer art camp that focused on the acting arts.
“This program will include singing, movement, and acting lessons, all leading up to what will be an unforgettable musical performance,” Vanoteghem said. “It will unleash your child’s creativity and you will see your child blossom into a confident performer.”
Classes will begin at 3:30 pm and will conclude between 4:45 and 5 pm. Dates for the classes are Jan 31; Feb 1, 7-8, 14-15, 21-22, 28-29, and March 6-7.
The total cost to participate is $100. That amount includes $75 for the 12 classes and a $25 fee for scripts, notebooks, t-shirts, and other materials. Scholarships to cover some or all of the participation costs are available.
“We are dedicated to making arts education accessible to everyone,” Vanoteghem said. “Thanks to our donorships and the Libby Womack Paddle Raise funds from our annual Art Ball, scholarships are available for all of our children’s programming. While full scholarships cannot be guaranteed, we strive to assist each family to the best of our ability.”
