AMA Student Art Studio Celebrates Seniors

Teens Can Paint Personalized Academic Hats

The Special Student Art Studio Saturday is April 12 at the Albany Museum of Art

A unique Student Art Studio Saturday (SASS) on April 12 will celebrate high school seniors. At the Send Off Our Seniors session, teens will design personalized academic hats and enjoy pizza in the Albany Museum of Art classroom.

“This will be a fun send-off for our seniors who are getting ready to take their next big step in life, but all high school students can have pizza and paint graduation hats,” AMA Director of Education and Public Programming Annie Vanoteghem said. “Seniors can tell their stories and capture their style on their hats. Younger students can design theirs as visual inspiration as they continue their high school careers.”

In addition, she said that students can create vision boards for the future and collaborate with fellow students and guest artists.

SASS: Send Off Our Seniors will be from noon until 3 pm. There is a $10 fee to cover the cost of the graduation hat, and pizza and refreshments.

Students can register online HERE.

“All high school students are welcome,” Vanoteghem said. “This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate, create, and be inspired before the school year ends.”

Created and led by the AMA Teen Art Board, SASS is a creative space for high school students to gather, make art, and connect. Teens can bring their projects, try new techniques using AMA materials, and enjoy a laid-back atmosphere with snacks and good music.

They are held noon-3 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month during the school year. There is no cost to participate except for special events like Send Off Our Seniors. The last session of the 2024-25 school year is on May 10. The program will return for the 2025-26 school year on Saturday, Aug 9.
