Registration Is Open for Albany Museum of Art Summer Camps

The AMA Is Hosting 11 Camps Throughout the Summer School Break

The Albany Museum of Art summer art camp season starts the day after Memorial Day. The 11 camps offer an array of art-inspired themes, including first-time choices and perennial favorites.

“One of our camps sold out a couple of weeks ago, and another one only has a seat or two left,” AMA Director of Education and Public Programming Annie Vanoteghem said. “We’re seeing a lot of interest. We were getting calls from some parents asking about the schedule and when registration would open even before the surprise January snow had time to melt!”

Each camp has a unique theme, along with activities and projects tailored to its age group. Campers will also participate in outside activities each week to get much needed Vitamin D. Each camp concludes with a pizza lunch for everyone. On other camp days, kids can bring a brown-bag lunch, or the AMA will provide lunch for an additional fee.

Thanks to funds raised each year at the AMA Art Ball during the Wayne & Alicia Gregory Family Foundation Paddle Raise, scholarships are available for summer camps. The first round of scholarship awards has been announced. Second-round awards will be announced on April 4, and the final round on May 16.

Camp information, registration links, and the scholarship application link are on the AMA’s summer camps webpage HERE.

“We have some favorites back this year, with Chef Todd White’s culinary arts camp; two Littles camps for toddlers; Megan Lisenby and Sumar Favreau’s Kid Artrepreneurs, which ends with a pop-up marketplace; Heather Ashberry’s printmaking and textiles camp, and Art Around the World,” Vanoteghem said.

“We also have some exciting new themes,” she said. “We’re partnering with The Nerd Store on Mini Masterminds, which combines miniature art with popular role-playing games. We have Wizard School, a mad scientist art lab, a photography camp, and we’ll end the summer with a Color Carnival. There’s something that will appeal to creative kids and young people in every age group.”

All weeklong camps are 9 am to 4 pm, except for Littles Camps, which are 9 am to noon. Some full-day camps have half-day options. Several full-day camps also offer free drop-off at 8 am and late pick-up at 5 pm.
